Pollock, South Dakota Pocasse causeway – Stone Idol . On October 13, 1804, Lewis and Clark stopped near here and noted two stones resembling human figures, and a third like a dog. Clark writes about the Arikara legend in his journal “ those people have a curious Tradition of those Stones, one was a man in Love, one a girl whose parents would not let them marry, the Dog went to morn with them and all turned to stone gradually…” When passing by these stones, the Arikara paid reverence and made votive offerings.

Stone Idol might have been discovered in a farmers field ( 2001). Historians are checking to verify this historical find.

Mandan, North Dakota - Fort Abraham Lincoln State Park. Reconstructed Mandan Indian earth lodges overlook the Heart and Missouri Rivers from a low bluff. Each lodge is 30 to 40 feet in diameter and stands 10 to 12 feet high. At one time this village had a population of about 1000 people; but it was deserted by the time Lewis and Clark noted it in their journals on October 20, 1804. Also located at the park is Cavalry Square, General George Custer's last cavalry post. Reconstructed Custer home and other buildings on the cavalry and infantry post.

Bismarck, North Dakota - Sakakawea Bronze Statue.  On the grounds of the state capitol in Bismarck at the entrance to the North Dakota Heritage Center.

Washburn, North Dakota – Lewis and Clark Interpretive Center and Fort Mandan. Fort Mandan was the winter headquarters (1804-1805) for the Corps of Discovery & was constructed by the Expedition and named after their Native American hosts. The present day Fort is a full-sized reconstruction of the trapezoidal fort.

Stanton, North Dakota - Knife River Indian Villages National Historic Site. These villages are where Lewis and Clark obtained the services of Sakakawea and her husband Charbonneau.
