Story of York MP3

William Clark inherited York from his father and York accompanied Clark on the Lewis and Clark Trail journey.

In present day South Dakota, York astounded the Arikara's with his size and skin color.
"The Indians much asstonished at my Black servent and Call him the big medison, this nation never saw a black man before." Captain Clark

Reaching the Pacific Ocean, York was given the right to vote,  November 24, 1805, as to the location of where the Expedition would build their winter quarters.

At the White House on January 17, 2001, in the closing days of the Clinton Administration, it was decided by the federal government that certain “wrongs” to York should be rectified: York  – never a official member of the famed Corps of Discovery – should be made honorary sergeant.  Certificate of Promotion  Event info @ The Filson Historical Society Blog.
